Day 9 Inis Meain

It was a lovely sunny morning and we had good views over to the islands.

We met the rest of the Airey Airways group at Doolin Pier.  One of the coaches was very late as the driver had got lost at Dublin Airport.  The ferry was about half an hour late leaving.  It was quite a rough crossing and a few people were ill but fortunately all of us were ok.  It took about half an hour and then we had a long walk up to the community centre on Inis Meain where the parkrun was due to start at 11am.  There was such a long queue for the ladies toilets that the start was delayed by 20 minutes.

We finally started running at 11.20.  It was a lovely scenic route and we could see the other Aran Islands on our way round.  I was pleased with my finish time of 30:16 as it was very hilly.

Parkrun start

After watching others come in, we went to the pub and had a drink and lunch.  Steph, Chris and I then went up to the hill fort nearby to explore before returing straight back to the harbour.

This donkey had been with its owners, cheering the parkrunners on.

The crossing back was much smoother and very pleasant.

We came back to the accommodation for a couple of hours before going to Gus O'Connors pub for dinner.
