Day 1 - Home to Haverfordwest
We left home at 10.30 and encountered a lot of heavy traffic throughout the journey which took over 5 and a half hours instead of the predicted 4.
We stopped in Usk, Monmouthshire for a lunch stop. What a delightful, floral town. The streets are very narrow and there was a lot of traffic. It should really be made traffic free or have a one way system.
We walked to the town centre, which is called Twyn Square and has a
clock tower and lots of flowers. We then took our picnic lunch to a
bench overlooking the river Usk. We then walked over the stone bridge,
along the river and crossed it again over a former railway bridge. Usk
has a castle but it is only open on Sundays and is not easy to see from
the town but we did get a distant photo. There were a lot of pubs in
the town, some with beautiful gardens but although tempted, we didnt
visit any and decided to continue.
We arrived in Haverfordwest at about 5.30, checked into the hotel and then went into the town. We walked around the main streets and over the river. We found the castle but it is closed off to the public. After some time walking about we went to Wetherspoons to eat.
